Lake Conservation Webinar Series: Michigan Shoreland Stewards Program

In the next Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership (MGLP) Lake Conservation Webinar, learn how Michigan is helping lake front property owners to determine if they are managing their property in a way that is healthy for their lake through the MI Shoreland Stewards Program. Julia Kirkwood with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy will explain what the program is and how the online survey works. Lakefront property owners are provided with a rating of Gold, Silver, Bronze or Starter level along with recommendations for improvement.

Julia has worked as a natural resource professional for over 25 years. For the past 18 years she has worked for the Nonpoint Source Pollution Program collaborating with community stakeholders to protect and restore rivers and lakes. She serves on multiple statewide inland lake partnerships and is the chair of the Michigan Natural Shoreline Partnership. She has enjoyed working on the development of the MI Shoreland Stewards Program and is currently working on creating more resources to help build more understanding on how to keep lakes healthy.

The MGLP hosts the Lake Conservation Webinars series. The purpose of the series is to share science, management, and outreach efforts of interest to our partners. Webinars in the series will be added to our webpage alongside other webinars of interest, with the goal of having 4-10 webinars each year. Notifications for the webinars will also be provided through the MGLP quarterly newsletter. If you would like to share your experience or project results through the webinar, please reach out to MGLP Coordinator Joe Nohner.
